About ACR and its Wood and Tool Businesses
Introduction
ACR International is the leading publisher of electronic cookbooks
and data-base CD-ROMs in the world and is the parent company for the
other companies that will be discussed below. With millions of copies
sold, ACR sells in both the United States and Canada, with sales and
distribution to many of the major superstore chains operating in the
United States.
ACR International is privately owned.
CEO and PRESIDENT
The principal owner, Douglas Myers (CEO) has an extensive engineering
background and is a holder of numerous US patents and currently has
4 new patents pending. Doug’s vision, combined with his engineering
abilities has always kept ACR on the cutting edge of its many product
offerings. His pursuit of quality and excellence began as a young
man while working for a wood production company where he was trained
in the quality grading of raw wood for the production of wood floors.
Even then, he was extremely fastidious in observing and differentiating
those critical factors that determined quality over mediocrity.
Prior to starting ACR, Doug was CEO of Rocky Mountain Sea Life where
he designed and manufactured one the world's foremost refrigerated
display-case systems for the supermarket industry. Within a 3 year
period, he was able to move the company from a $100,000 organization
to a nearly $4,000,000 company, positioning it into the number two
position in the world amongst its 14 major competitors. To achieve
this, he secured manufacturing contracts to build refrigerated displays
for such leading international companies as Friederick, Hussmann,
Costan, Criosbanc, Nax, Kysor-Warren, Hill and Tyler – whose
combined sales totaled well over $2 billion annually. Further, the
company carried its own complete line of cases, adding versatility
and variety to the existing line of cases. Among the many major accomplishments,
Doug first introduced the concept and prototype of the very first
European-curved glass live seafood case, which revolutionized and
changed the total concept and presentation of seafood in the supermarket
environment. He also conceptualized and brought the concept of sub-cooling
to the refrigeration industry, which reduced the cost factor of cooling
these large cases – a concept still widely in use today.
His company was also able to obtain sales contracts with many of
the grocery store chains as well as many of the superstores, securing
the contracts for the first three Wal-Mart superstores, originally
built under the name of “Hyper-Mart USA.” Sales extended
internationally to Asia (e.g., Singapore and the Philippines), Canada,
Europe and the Middle East. Doug and one of his business partners
– Bob Weingarten, worked with the FDA and NSF, playing a significant
role in changing the process and establishing the standard for how
seafood was regulated in the supermarket, refrigerated display case
industry, forcing all competitors to follow suit.
After Rocky Mountain, Doug founded ACR, a company that started out
as a Consumer Rights' Advocate group for the protection of consumer
rights. Later he led the company in collecting one of the world’s
largest databases of credit and consumer rights information available
on the market at that time. While working with a network of attorneys,
including a former chief executive counsel with the IRS, he battled
on behalf of hundreds of consumers for their rights in settling debt
with companies and individuals. He also screened individuals for IRS
Offering and Compromises, saving some of his clients many thousands
of dollars in legal fees and hundreds of thousands in unsubstantiated
debts. One of the significant outcomes of this process was the development
of “The Credit Solution” CD-Rom, which provided an exhaustive
database of credit–related information for the average consumer.
During this time, under the company name, Prodigita (beginning in
1994), he also developed the currently in-vogue electronic, multi-media
Biz-Card, for which he holds an additional 4 design patents, on the
Biz-Card format, including the copyright and trademarks on the name:
Biz-Card. This product is a CD-Rom the size of a standard business
card that can contain and provide multimedia and other audio-visual
special effect presentations to targeted audiences. This product has
been used for companies to put their entire business catalogs and
product lines on the Biz-Card for presentation and distribution at
professional shows and through mailings. Some of his biggest clients
included The Boeing Company, where the production of these cards was
designated for the Joint Strike Fighter jets, the AWACS fighter jets,
the Boeing Super Hornet, the Boeing FA18, the Boeing F-15E Strike
Eagle and the Navy's Tailhook Fighter Jet. Another special card was
produced for Willie Nelson, through the combined efforts of the Sony
Corp, the Blue Angels, and Willie Nelson.
Through 26 years experiences in working with the large chain stores,
Doug then diversified ACR into selling a wide range of databases to
the largest superstore chains, including Wal-Mart, Target, etc. In
the process, ACR became the world’s largest supplier of cookbook
databases, resulting in millions of dollars of sales. With the accrued
capital, he further created four additional companies - Daytona Precision
Tools (a new major player in the tool industry, creating new, improved
and innovative woodworking and machinist tools, while reshaping the
precision and function of many of these tools); Pedigree Wood Crafts
(a company that provides new, innovative and re-designed wood worker
products for the wood craft industry); Artistic Bathroom Fixtures
(a company that distinguishes itself by reshaping and redesigning
what today’s modern bathroom is all about); and his newest venture,
Rock Point Cabinets, (a custom cabinet company that specializes in
cabinetry for industrial applications such as condominiums, apartment
houses, hotels, office buildings, and the health care industry, and
for the home consumer).
Doug has also dabbled in a personal hobby that has involved over
20 years of professional photography and video production and recently
partnered with a company called MindPix. From that association, they
formed a new company called FlexStone. Their combined experience brings
over 50 years of video production to FlexStone. Doug is the executive
producer of a few instructional videos, with many additional videos
under current development. A good many of these will be directly related
to the businesses discussed herein.
With offices both in the US and Beijing, China, Doug and his partners
have been continuously bringing new and innovative concepts to whatever
industry ACR has been engaged in, and will continue to bring forth
new and innovative products to the world.
